Once Upon A Crescent: Episode – 7: An Eid Surprise

This episode of Once Upon A Crescent tells the story of Siru and Nura, two sisters who are preparing for Eid celebrations amidst the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic has forced their family to adapt their traditions, including switching to online shopping for gifts and outfits.
One of the major changes is the inability to have large family gatherings. Instead of their usual Eid lunch buffet and gift exchanges with their extended family, they have to celebrate in a smaller, more distanced way.

Siru is particularly disappointed that she can’t personally deliver her handmade Eid cards to her cousins. Her mother comes up with the idea of having a “car parade” where family members drive by to pick up lunch boxes and greet each other from a distance.
A big problem arises when Nura’s gift, a set of scented markers, gets delayed in delivery. Siru, wanting to make her sister’s Eid special despite the missing gift, decides to create a giant, personalized Eid card for Nura. She even tapes her own scented markers to the back of the card as a gift.
On Eid day, Nura is initially sad about not having a present, but Siru’s thoughtful gesture quickly cheers her up.
As it turns out, Nura’s package eventually arrives, having been accidentally delivered to a relative’s house. Siru’s father uses this situation to draw a parallel to the story of Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, and how Allah ultimately returned Ismail to him.
In the end, despite the unexpected challenges and changes, Siru and Nura experience a joyful and meaningful Eid, highlighting the importance of family, generosity, and adapting to difficult situations.
